ABOUT THE BAND
Since 1955, The
Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department Band has been a summer tradition in
Greenwich, providing marching music for members of The Sound Beach Volunteer
Fire Department
(www.sbvfd.com) at area Firemen's parades in Fairfield and Westchester Counties, and
performing evening concerts at public parks all over town. As one of
the last "firehouse bands" in the state, after 52 years, the band was
separated from the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department in 2007 and
incorporated as the Sound Beach Community Band, a 501-C(3) Not-For-Profit
organization.
As in the past, the new SBC Band also entertains throughout the year at other community events
and venues such as the Independence Day Fireworks in Binney Park in July and the Old Greenwich
Elementary School Pumpkin Patch in October. And of course, the band is
always on hand to play when Santa returns to the SBVFD firehouse each winter, in
his vintage fire truck filled with toys for all good children!
Also affectionately known as the town’s own “Marching, Concert and
High-Society Band,” the band’s repertoire includes pops and some classical
pieces, as well as more traditional march favorites.
Although the band has a strong core of professional and semi-professional
musicians who volunteer their time, new members at any level are always
welcome -- so dust off that flute you played in junior high and join the
fun!
